FvgGold EA (foeed (GitHub)): tested

No edge Expert Advisor · tested 23 Sep 2026 · figures re-checked 8 Oct 2026

What it claims

A free MetaTrader 5 robot for gold that trades fair-value-gap retests with a fixed stop and a 1.5R target. Its page showed +48.7% on a $10,000 account over January to July 2026 (64 trades, 45.3% won).

What we tested

Its own compiled code in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester on 15-minute gold with its shipped settings, on years it was not built on (2023, 2024, 2025 and late 2026), with real tick spreads and swap. We also tested a fixed version that cancels orders once their gap has expired.

-0.34Rper trade as shipped, out of sample46 trades; one order sat unfilled for 357 days and blocked all trading
-0.036Rper trade with stale orders cancelled2,875 trades, 2023 to 2026; negative in every year
21%trades that reached the target40% needed at 1.5R
+$1.89the author's own window, re-run with the author's codethe page showed +$4,874
Before trading costs unless stated. R = the amount risked on a trade.

Spread and swap are inside these figures, since the tester fills at real bid and ask; swap alone moved the result only from -0.034R to -0.036R per trade.

Why

As shipped, the robot leaves limit orders waiting forever and allows only one at a time, so one order far from the price can stop it trading for most of a year, and what it earns depends on which order got stuck. With that fixed, it trades 700 to 800 times a year and loses a little every year. Its choice of buy or sell did no better than a coin flip on the same trades. The 45% 'win rate' counts break-even exits as wins: only 21% of trades reached the target, against the 40% needed at 1.5R.

Limits of this test

  • The 2024 and 2025 as-shipped runs used ticks generated from 1-minute bars; all runs of the fixed version used 99-100% real ticks.
  • A 16-setting stop and target search found two settings positive on past data; the best lost on 2026 real ticks.
